Written by Ron Eliran during the Six Day War, this song commemorates Israel’s capture of Sharm El Sheikh, a city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Eliran volunteered to entertain the troops throughout the war. This song was born as he travelled through the Sinai Desert between one performance for soldiers and another.
Sharm El Sheikh
Great is the night and to you I smile.
We returned with the morning to Sharm El Sheikh
We passed in the night the sea and the mountains.
And in the morning we arrived at the strait
To Sharm El Sheikh
We came back to you again
To our hearts
Our hearts always
The sea and sea salt will see the song;
We returned to you Tiran (island) and (fish) fins;
You in the sky above from your heart flows sea water to Sharm El Sheikh
To Sharm El Sheikh
We came back to you again
To our hearts
Our hearts always
The morning arrives at a coral beach again pass in the water fishing boats
The evening is falling brings another dream
Brings on the water hope for peace
To Sharm El Sheikh
We came back to you again
To our hearts
Our hearts always
