This video presents an emotive rendition of the first two and last two verses of Eishet Chayil performed by the well-known Jewish musical entertainer, Yaakov Shwekey, including on screen Hebrew, English and transliterated lyrics. In order to avoid saying the name of God outside of prayer or blessings, Shwekey follows the custom of saying “Hashem” instead of “Adonai.” Although Shwekey’s father was born in Egypt to a Syrian family, his mother is Ashkenazi, and his pronunciation reflects North American Orthodox Ashkenazi custom.Â
