Golscheider’s uses lyrical repetition and rising notes throughout the melody to create an emotive and inspiring tone. Viewers can learn the tune and the words of the blessing by following along with onscreen Hebrew, English and transliterated subtitles. The background of the video is a painting by the Ukrainian Jewish, Israeli artist, Eduard Gurevich, entitled “Lighting Shabbat Candles in the Shtetl Brody.” The painting depicts a family gathered around the Shabbat table for the lighting of the Shabbat candles. The women and girls are covering their eyes as they recite the blessing, with the men and boys look on with respect and satisfaction.
