In this academic article (13 pages), Prof. Nurit Alfasi of Ben Gurion University and Prof. Tovi Fenster of Tel Aviv University compare the impact of globalization on “local Jerusalem” and “global Tel Aviv,” arguing that the cultural, political and economic differences between the cities are connected to the level of the state’s involvement in each city’s municipal affairs. Comparing the symbols, populations, composition and socio-economic status of the two cities, the article explores differences in citizen-authority relations and how they affect sentiments of “global citizenship.”
