In this clip (2:43), the late political activist Uri Avnery recounts part of his experience in the Battle for Latrun in 1948. Located on the main road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Latrun played a key strategic role in accessing Jerusalem. While the battles in 1948 failed and Israeli forces suffered heavy losses, Latrun was ultimately captured during the Six Day War. To commemorate the fallen soldiers, KKL-JNF has created a hiking route within the scenic Ayalon Park that follows the story of the battles of Latrun. They also maintain the nearby Hulda Forest and historical Herzl House, which attract tourists to the area.
