Kibbutz Nir Am
Kibbutz Nir Am was established in early 1943 in the Negev by members of the Gordonia youth movement from Eastern Europe.
In 1946 the kibbutz changed its name from Nir Hayim to Nir Am, symbolizing the cultivated fields of the nation.
The Museum of Water and Security at Nir Am provides information on the settlement process, water, agriculture and battles fought in the Negev. The site was critical for strengthening settlement in the Negev by providing a water pipeline to Jewish settlements in the Negev. This allowed additional communities to be developed in the Negev and convinced the United Nations to include the Negev in the lands allotted to the Jewish state in the Partition Plan.
KKL-JNF developed an outdoor environmental classroom and a recognition site in honour of its Australian donors and their extensive contribution to the development of the Negev.
