A Holy City to Three Religions
Considered by many around the world to be the center of the spiritual world, the Holy City of Jerusalem is sacred to each of the three monotheistic religions, with ancient roots in each tradition.Â
The eternal capital of the Jewish nation, Jerusalem was the site of Judaism’s ancient Temples and continues to be the focal point of prayer and pilgrimage until today for Jews around the world. In Christian tradition, the Old City of Jerusalem houses the sites of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection. Home to the sacred Al-Aqusa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem is the point from which Muhammad ascended to heaven, according to Islam.
