Natan Yonatan: Everyone Has a Jerusalem

Natan Yonatan: Everyone Has a Jerusalem

This post presents an English translation of a Hebrew poem about Jerusalem written by celebrated Israeli poet, Natan Yonatan (1923-2004).

Everyone Has a Jerusalem

For everyone there is a city and her name is Jerusalem
He is the gatherer, the gatherer of dreams
Until you go up the mountain, the bloom of the night
And bring light to him at night.
Until you go up the mountain, the bloom of the night
And bring light to him at night.

From your dirt Jerusalem
The night flowers will light him up.
Oh oh oh…

Everyone have a place in Jerusalem
That he calls, he calls it love,
When he arrives in the end barefoot and cold to you,
You sweeten the light and the dust.
When he arrives in the end barefoot and cold to you,
You sweeten the light and the dust.

From your dirt Jerusalem
The night flowers will light him up.
Oh oh oh…

There is sorrow and happiness, like Jerusalem
And the music with the sounds of bells,
The last song fall from the highest point of your tower,
To play his name in the stones
The last song fall from the highest point of your tower,
To play his name in the stones.
