This clip (6:18) from i24NEWS introduces the virtues of the Dead Sea — its uniqueness as the lowest point on Earth, its coveted mineral-enriched mud, and its staggeringly beautiful rock and salt formations. But the Dead Sea, with all its virtues, may soon disappear. Climate change has caused a marked decrease in the rainfall that used to feed the Jordan River — the Dead Sea’s source. In addition, political conflict among Syria, Jordan, and Israel regarding the water’s source as well as intrusive levels of salt mining have brought the Dead Sea to its current state. Each year, the Dead Sea’s diameter decreases and more dangerous sinkholes appear along its shores.
