At 1,290 pounds, and an expenditure of $100 million funded by private donors, it was the lightest and and lowest-budget spacecraft ever launched to the Moon. Though Beresheet was destroyed in a crash-landing on the Moon on April 11, 2019, Tech Insider’s Dave Mosher remains optimistic, pointing out that we may look back at the Beresheet as the having opened the door to colonizing the Moon, and possibly even Mars.Â
